FAIRFIELD, AL - David Uselton, Jr. has been named the SIAC Special Teams Player of the Week in week seven for October 13, 2012. It's the first honor of the season for Uselton and the fifth for the Miles football team.
The 6-1, freshman, punter from Homewood, AL. had five punts in the Kentucky State win for 250-yards, averaging 50-yards per punt and a long of 66-yards.

Offensive Player of the Week
Fort Valley State senior wide receiver Christopher Slaughter was named SIAC Offensive Player of the Week. The senior, selected to the AFCA Preseason All-American Team, had a career day with 10 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns in Fort Valley's 38-12 win over Concordia-Selma. The 6-foot-3 deep threat target from Fort Valley, GA scored touchdowns from 62 and 14 yards.

Defensive Player of the Week
Albany State freshman linebacker Tavarius Washington is the SIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Washington, from Waynesboro, GA, led the ASU “Dirty Blue” defense with a game high 15 tackles, which included 10 solo and 3.5 tackles for losses, in the Golden Rams 16-13 win over Morehouse. Washington also negated a Maroon Tiger scoring drive by recovering a fumble and returning it 34-yards in the third quarter.

Newcomer of the Week
SIAC Newcomer of the Week was awarded to Dexter Moody of Albany State. Moody intercepted a Morehouse pass—on the first play of the third quarter—and returned it 38 yards for a score. The pick six was the determining factor in Albany State's 16-13 win over Morehouse. The junior from Twin City, Georgia also recorded five solo tackles and a pass breakup.

Lineman of the Week
Fort Valley State's Marquis Franklin was named SIAC Offensive Lineman of the Week. Franklin dominated Concordia's defensive ends in a game in which Fort Valley amassed 434 yards of total offense. Protecting quarterback Antonio Henton's blind side, Franklin, a 6-foot-8 mammoth right tackle, yielded only one quarterback sack on 34 passing attempts.

The Golden Bears overall record is 6-1 and 4-0 in SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) play, as the Golden Bears prepare for Saturday, October 20 game in Jackson, TN. Miles will play Lane College Dragons (3-4; 1-3) at 2 p.m.
