MOREHOUSE BEATS GOLDEN BEARS IN LABOR DAY GOLDEN CLASSIC
BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Golden Bears were held to 123 yards of total offense in their loss to Morehouse College on Sunday in the 5th Annual Labor Day Golden Classic game at historic Legion Field. Morehouse beat Miles 47-9 in a non-conference matchup, as it was both teams season opener.
The Golden Bears rushed for just 56 total yards and passed for another 67 yards. Running back
Jordan Lewis led the team with 60 yards on the ground and
K. C. Logan rushed for 17 more.
Starting quarterback
Casey Weston managed 11 yards on a 7-of-13 passing day and
David Thomas threw for 56 yards on 6-of-8 passes. Thomas rushed for the Golden Bears only touchdown from one yard out with 6:01 left on the game clock.
Wide receiver
Antonio Pitts and
Ronnie Garcia grabbed three catches apice for 27 and 14 yards.
Miles defense was led by linebacker
Corey Robinson with 14 tackles and one break-up.
Antonio Dill and
Darryl Perry had 6 tackles each.
Quarterback Thomas and linebacker Robinson were named offensive and defensive players of the game for the Johnson Memorial and US Army Awards.
The Golden Bears will host the Hornets of Concordia-Selma College at Albert J. Sloan-Alumni Stadium on Saturday, September 10 at 6:00 p.m.
