MILES LADY BEARS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER FROM ALABAMA A&M
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Twin sisters Terri and
Tiffany Roberts homered for Miles College (16-20; 10-4) in game one to power the Lady Bears to a 9-7 and 5-1 sweep of DI power house Alabama A&M University Lady Bulldogs (3-19) Wednesday at Jefferson State Field.
The win marked a miles stone for the Lady Bears softball team as the wins are the first for DII Miles over a DI program.
Game one, the Lady Bulldogs scored two runs in the first, three more in the second and one run each in the fifth and six innings. Miles scored two runs in the first, four in the fifth and three runs in the six.
Junior
Heather Mitchell (3-4) picked up the win, as she allowed seven runs (two earned) on nine hits in seven innings.
Cassandra Brown (3-11) took the loss with nine earned runs given and 13 hits.

Stephanie Woods walked in the first inning, sophomore

Valerie Pena singled to advance both runners and senior
Kendra Ward single to score Woods and Roberts.
The Lady Bears scored four runs in the fifth with senior

Terri Roberts doubled up the middle and Woods singled.

Miles down 6-7 in the six inning, but
Terri Roberts took matters into her own hands as she homered over left center for the tie, Woods walked and
Tiffany Roberts homered over right center with the two RBI game winner.
Ward went 4-for-4, scored three runs, doubled and stole a base, while
Terri Roberts was 2-for-3 with three RBI's, homered and scored twice.
Tiffany Roberts went 2-for-4 on the day with one RBI; two runs scored, homered, doubled and stole a base. Woods, Bush and Dawson had one hit each.
Game two, the Lady Bulldogs scored their lone run in the 4th, while Miles scored one run in the first, two in the third and one run each in the fourth and fifth innings.
Junior
Kayla Bowmaster (8-9) got the win, while giving up one earned run on seven hits and one strike out.
For Alabama A&M Vanessa Kersten (0-5) picked up the loss off 11 hits and five runs (four earned), with five strike outs and three walks.

Third inning,
Tiffany Roberts singled, stole second and third, then scored on an error by the catcher. Mitchell singled and scored off a double by Bush.
Fourth inning,
Terri Roberts singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error by Lady Bulldogs catcher, then scored on an error by Lady Bulldogs center fielder.
Fifth inning, Ward singled and moved to second on a sac by Mitchell back to the pitcher, Bush single would score Ward for the final run.
Terri Roberts was 3-for-4 at the plate, with one RBI and one run scored, Bush went 2-for-2 with two RBI's.
Tiffany Roberts and Ward went 2-for-3 at the plate with Roberts scoring twice and Ward once, while Mitchell and Dawson having one hit each.
The Lady Bears will travel to Tuskegee, Alabama to play a three game conference series this weekend with the Lady Tigers of Tuskegee University.
