LADY BEARS SPLIT DAY TWO OF FOUR GAME SERIES WITH KENTUCKY STATE
BESSEMER, AL – The Miles College Lady Bears (6-12; 4-2) split a doubleheader with the Lady Thorobreds of Kentucky State University (6-8; 2-2) to complete a four game series dropping game one 5-7 and winning game two 8-1 on Sunday, March 13 at Bessemer City High School Softball Complex.
The Lady Thorobreds started early in game one with two runs in the first inning, four in the third and another run in the fifth, while Miles scored three runs in the first, one run in each of the second and third innings.
Sophomore
Terri Roberts, senior's
Kendra Ward and
Valerie Pena went 2-for-4 at the plate, while junior's
Heather Mitchell and
Brittney Mitchell had two hits each. Heather had two RBI's and Roberts, Ward and Pena had one RBI apice. Roberts hit a homer and scored twice for the Lady Bears.
Roberts picked up the loss for the Lady Bears, giving up six runs off five hits and five walks. Danielle Garay got the win for Kentucky State while allowing five runs on five hits.
In game two, the Lady Bears came off the bench running with one run in the first inning, five in the third and one more in the fourth and six innings. Kentucky State would not get on the score board until the fifth inning with their only run.
Sophomore
Terri Roberts led the team with a 4-for-4 day at the plate and scored three times, while senior
Kendra Ward backed Terri up with a 3-for-4 day, three RBI's and scored once. Sophomore
Kayla Gable-Bush went 2-for-4 and senior
Jo Amy Rollo had one RBI, scored once and went 1-for-3 at the plate.
Junior pitcher
Kayla Bowmaster (2-3) picked up her second win in two days with a complete game, allowing one earned run and seven hits.
Shenaaz Burrell (1-3) took the loss for Kentucky State.
