LADY BEARS SPLIT WITH KENTUCKY STATE IN SIAC PLAY
BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Kentucky State University Lady Thorobreds (5-8; 1-1) out hit the Miles College Lady Bears 5-11; 3-1) 19-18 over a two game doubleheader, but a solid effort in the circle from junior
Kayla Bowmaster in game two gave the Lady Bears a split on Saturday, March 12 at the Bessemer City High School Softball Complex.
The Lady Thorobreds got off to a quick start in game one, scoring two runs in the first, three in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the seventh off Miles starter junior
Heather Mitchell.

Tiffany Roberts tripled in senior
DeAndrea Dawson to put the first run on the board for the Lady Bears. Sophomore
Terri Roberts tripled to drive in her twin sister Tiffany. Senior
Valerie Pena walked, stole second and Terri scored the third run on an error.
The Lady Bears would not score again until the fifth inning as Terri singled and advanced to second on an error. She later scored off a double by senior
Kendra Ward but she would be thrown out trying to advance to third. Pena doubled and later scored the final run off a Kentucky State error.
Mitchell (0-3) took the loss, while allowing nine runs on 11 hits in seven innings.
Danielle Garay (1-2) for the Lady Thorobreds earned the win, while allowing two runs in relief, one earned run and four hits.
Game two started the same, with Kentucky State scoring two runs in the second and third and one in the fifth. Miles scored three runs in the fifth, two in the seventh to tie the game and the winner in the eight.
In the fifth, Dawson singled, Tiffany singled, advanced to second on an error and Dawson scored on the throw. Terri singled in Tiffany and then stole second, where Pena's single scored Terri.
Down by two in the seventh inning, Tiffany tripled, Ward reached base on a fielder's choice, then advanced to third on a bad throw by Kentucky State's third baseman and Tiffany would scored. Pena tied the game by driving in Ward on a fly out to left field.
In the eight, Dawson singled and advanced to second on an error throw by the Lady Thorobreds short stop and then Tiffany's single to drive in the winning run.
Tiffany went 4-for-5 at the plate in game two, while driving in two runs and scoring another two. She was 7-for-9 on the day, with three RBI's. Dawson went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored twice.
Bowmaster (1-2) picked up the win, while giving up five runs in eight innings on eight hit and struck out six batters.
Lorena Villamar (0-3) took the loss as she gave up six runs off ten hits with only one earned run allowed in 7.2 innings.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow Sunday, March 13 at 12 noon at the Bessemer City High School Complex.
