LADY BEARS OUT PACE THE LADY DRAGONS BY 10 POINTS

FAIRFIELD, AL – Junior guard Tocarra Charles scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Miles College Lady Bears (12-6; 9-5) over the Lady Dragons of Lane College (4-12; 4-10) 65-46 at Knox-Windham Gymnasium on Thursday night.

Miles shot 45.5 percent from the floor, 66.7 percent in three's and 83.3 percent from the free throw line. Lane shot 29.6 percent from the field and 83.3 percent at the foul line. The Lady Bears would out rebound the Lady Dragons by four (18-14).

Junior Ashlee Barley scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Miles at the half.

Shelice Crater paced the Lady Dragons with nine points and Jalissa Mosby had four rebounds.

For the second half, the Lady Bears would take control to go up 34-23 on a 3-pointer by Charles with 18:39 to go. Lane would cut that lead to 43-42 on a 3-pointer by Rakelle Riley with 7:20 remaining, but with 1:31 left, sophomore Alicia Ware put the game away 52-46 on a layup. Miles went on to win the game 56-46.

Miles hit 38.3 percent of its shots and 77.8 percent (14-of-18) free throws, while Lane hit 35.3 percent from the floor and 70.0 percent at the foul line. The Lady Bears grabbed 35-rebounds to Lane 31.

Charles went 4-of-9 from the field and 4-of-6 at the free throw line for the Lady Bears in the victory. Junior Sammeika Thomas had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Thomas hit 5-of-9 shots, 2-of-2 from the foul line, dished out three assist, five steals and blocked three shots. Barley and junior Charlesia Norman added eight points each and senior Ashley Orphey chipped in seven points and four assist. Junior Kamissah Shaw grabbed five rebounds and sophomore Ra'Shawne Cox added four points and one assist.

Shelice Crater led the Lady Dragons with 12 points and Rakelle Riley added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Miles will be back in action on Saturday, February 5 at Knox-Windham Gymnasium as they play the Lady Thorobreds of Kentucky State University at 1 p.m.
