MILES LADY BEARS BASKETBALL TEAM PICK-UP FIRST WIN OVER WEST ALABAMA

FAIRFIELD, AL – Senior forward Sammeika Thomas led Miles with a game-high 15 points in their first win of the season with a non-conference victory over the University of West Alabama Lady Falcons 61-45 at Knox-Windham Gymnasium on Wednesday night. Miles improved its record to 1-1 and West Alabama fell to 1-5.

Thomas finished with seven rebounds, seven assist, three blocks, while going 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Senior forward Jessica Franklin led the Lady Bears with eight boards and scored ten points. Senior guard Toccara Charles chipped in 11 points and junior center Ra'Shawne Cox added nine points and five rebounds.

Nikkia Jordan led the Lady Falcons with nine points and Tamya Thompson, Brittany Weathers and Synthea Reed had six boards.

The Lady Bears led 35-24 at the half. Miles hit 40.0 percent for its shots from the floor in the first half and 38.5 percent in the second. They shot 83.3 percent at the free throw line in the first half and 50.0 percent in the second half. West Alabama went for 29.0 percent from the field in the first half and 32.1 percent in the second half.

The Lady Bears will face Lady Tigers of Stillman College at Knox-Windham Gymnasium on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 5:30 p.m.
