CHAMBERS’ LAST SECOND FIELD GOAL SPOILS CAU’s HOMECOMING

ATLANTA, GA – Miles College's kicker Patton Chambers' 18-yard field goal with 23 seconds left in the game lifted the Golden Bears over Clark Atlanta University 19-16 in front of a homecoming crowd of more than 20,000, Saturday at Panther Stadium. 

Anderson Davis put Clark Atlanta (2-4, SIAC 2-2) on the board first with a three-yard touchdown run in the second quarter which gave the Panthers a slim advantage.  Miles (3-3, SIAC 2-1) then tied the game with its own one-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback David Thomas. A 7-7 tie remained at the half.

Running back Rashad Lewis' three-yard run put the Panthers up 13-6, before a Miles safety by defensive lineman Alexander Morrison made it a four-point game, 13-9, in the third quarter.

The Golden Bears struck early in the fourth quarter with a 10-yard pass from Thomas to running back K. C. Logan that gave the Miles their first lead of the game at 16-13. But the Panthers orchestrated a 64-yard drive on its next possession which led to a Kemuel Lawrence 30-yard field goal conversion that knotted the game at 16.

A 38-yard reception by wide receiver Vondragus Hudson moved the Golden Bears to the Panthers four-yard line with 58 seconds remaining, and Chambers' chip shot from the one-yard sealed the road win for Miles.

Defensively, linebacker's Julanta English and Shaquille Wallace led the Golden Bears with seven and six tackles each, while Wallace had one of two Miles sacks and two tackles-for-losses for six yards. Morrison and defensive lineman Jeffrey Cox had four and three tackles apice. Charles Alfred and Ricky Moore led the Panthers with eight and seven tackles respectively. 

The Golden Bears netted 345 yards with 142 belonging to running back Jordan Lewis who recorded 110 yards rushing and 32 receiving yards and Clark Atlanta gained 241 total yards of offense. Miles wide receiver's Antonio Pitts led the Golden Bears with five catches for 64 yards and Hudson two catches for 69 yards.

Clark Atlanta's Lewis led the Panthers with 48 rushing yards, and Terrance Milton's five catches for 65 yards.
 
Next, Miles will host the Thorobreds of Kentucky State University in their first of four division games on Saturday, October 15 at Albert J. Sloan-Alumni Stadium at 6 p.m.
