LEWIS POWERS MILES OVER BENEDICT

AUGUSTA, GA –Junior running back “Jordan Lewis” scored one of two touchdowns in the final minute of regulation and another five plays later in overtime to give Miles College (2-3; 1-1) a 20-14 the win over the Tigers of Benedict College (1-4; 0-2) Saturday, October 1 in the Augusta City Classic at Lucy C. Laney Stadium in Augusta, Georgia.

Miles controlled the pigskin with 286 total yards of offense, while rushing for 134 yards and passing for 156 yards. Benedict had 180 yards of total offense. The Golden Bears defense held the Tigers to 96 yards in rushing and 84 yards of passing.

Miles drew first blood as kicker “Patton Chambers” kicked a 33 yard field goal to finish a 13 play, 72 yard drive with 7:44 left in the first quarter for a 3-0 lead.

The Tigers' Simeon Kelley completed a 22 yard pass to Kendariss Brown for Benedict's first touchdown with 14:09 left in second quarter (7-3).

Chambers added another field goal from 24 yard field goal out to end an 8 play, 24 yard drive with 11:01 remaining in third quarter (7-6). The Tigers' Elijah Taylor picked off a “Tavarris Wiggins” pass and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown with 1:23 to go in the third quarter for a 14-6 lead.

Lewis tied the game 14-14 with a one yard run with 1:00 on the clock in the fourth quarter.

Miles won the toss and elected to go on defense first in overtime. Miles “Ronnie Stephens” forced and recovered a fumble by Simeon Kelley for Benedict at the Miles 15 yard line. Five plays and 25 yards later, Lewis would cap off the afternoon with a one yard touchdown for the win.

Lewis led the Golden Bears in rushing with 77 yards on 28 carries, two touchdowns and one catch for 11 yards. Along with the win, Lewis was named the Augusta City Classic Offensive Player of the Game. Junior quarterback “David Thomas” completed 13-of-26 passes for 152 yard and three interceptions, while junior wide receiver “Jerromy Mardis” grabbed 6 passes for 93 yards.

Stephens led Miles on defense with six tackles (5 solo, 1 assist), one sack, one tackle-for-loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Sophomore linebacker “Julantate English” added six more tackles and a tackle-for-loss.

Miles will travel to Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, October 8 to play the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University in a 1:30 game.
