LADY BEARS FALL BY ONE POINT TO WEST ALABAMA
FAIRFIELD, AL – The Miles College Lady Bears (4-4; 2-3) basketball team dropped a close non-conference game to the University of West Alabama (12-2) 59-58 at Knox-Windham gym.
Miles went to half down 30-21 on the back of 30.0% shooting from the floor and hitting 75% of its free throws. West Alabama shot 43.8% from the floor.
Junior forward
Kamissah Shaw had five points and senior forward
Brandy Gillespie and junior center
LaTanya Scott four points each for the Lady Bears. Mystee Dale scored 14 points for West Alabama.
For the game, the Lady Bears hit 23-of-62 shots and fired off 8-of-16 three's and went 4-of-8 at the foul line. West Alabama scored on 23-of-58 shots, while hitting 10-of-13 free throws.
West Alabama out rebounded Miles 40-37.
Junior guard
Toccara Charles led the Lady Bears in scoring with 20 points, while hitting 6-of-8 three-pointers and grabbing four rebounds. Thomas chipped in 11 points and a game-high nine boards and sophomore forward
Jessica Franklin scored six points and eight rebounds. Senior point guard
Ashley Orphey dished out a team-high six assist.
Mystee Dale scored a game-high 27 points for West Alabama.
The Lady Bears will travel to Columbia, SC to play Allen University on Saturday, January 10 at 12:00 noon and to Atlanta, GA on January 12 to play the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University in a 6:00 game.
