LADY BEARS WIN OVER THE PAINE LADY LIONS 51-42
AUGUSTA, GA - The Miles College Lady Bears (9-4; 6-3) defeated the Lady Lions of Paine College (1-15; 1-12) 51-42 for a six game in a row win Saturday afternoon at Carter Gymnasium.
Paine jumped out to a five point advantage on a layup by Michele Brown with 3:10 remaining in the first period. Miles would tie the game and go ahead 23-22 on two made free throws by junior center
Sammeika Thomas with 51 seconds left to halftime. The teams went to half tied 24-24.
Miles shot 23.5 percent from the floor and 80.0 percent at the line in the first frame, while Paine went 40.0 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the foul line.
The Lady Lions out rebounded the Lady Bears in the first frame 24-18.
Thomas scored 10 points to lead Miles at the half and junior guard
Ashlee Barley added 7. Baiesha Johnson and Brittany Pevey added six each for Paine.
Thomas led the Lady Bears in scoring and rebounding with a double-double 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while going 6-of-15 from the field and 3-for-4 at the charity line. Senior point guard

For the game, Miles shot 25.4 percent from the floor and 76.9 percent (20-of-26) at the free throw line. Paine hit 34.9 percent and 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) from the line.
The Lady Lions out rebounded the Lady Bears 40-36.
Brittany Pevey scored a game-high 17 points to lead Paine, while Michele Brown grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Lady Bears return to action on Tuesday, January 25 at Knox-Windham Gymnasium as they take on the Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State University at 5:30 p.m.
