MILES LADY BEARS DROP CONFERENCE OPENER TO LADY RAMS

ALBANY, GA – Senior guard Ashley Orphey scored a game high 21 points for the Lady Bears in their loss to Albany State University Lady Rams 55-70 at ASU HPER Gymnasium.

Miles College record falls to 1-1; 0-1 in conference play and Albany State improves to
1-4; 1-0 in the SIAC.

At the half, Miles went to the locker room down 27-31 and was out scored in the second half 28-35. Miles hit just 25% from the field in the first half and 60% at the free throw line. Albany State hit 33.3 % from the field and 50% from the foul line.

For the game, the Lady Bears hit 16-of-61 shots from the field for 26.2 %, while making 16-of-25 free throws for 64 %. Albany State hit 39.3 % (22-of-56) from the floor and 62.9 % (22-of-35) free throws.

Albany State out rebounded the Miles 53-36, while they turned the ball over 27 times to Miles 21.

Orphey hit 4-of-9 three pointers, grabbed 4 rebounds and had 3 assist and 4 steals, while junior guard Toccara Charles scored another 8 points. Junior guard Ashlee Barlee had a team high 5 rebounds and 7 points, with a 3-for-3 night at the free throw line.

Kourtney Alexander and Callie Hamilton scored a team high 13 points each for Albany State, while Beneidra Colbert grabbed a game high 12 boards.

The Lady Bears will play the Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia on Monday, November 29 at 6 p.m.
