T. J. Williams is in his fourth season as assistant track and field coach at Miles and looks to continue his work developing the Lady Golden Bears program.
 
Williams has achieved a national reputation as an elite coach during his illustrious 28-year coaching career training and developing youth as well as world class athletes. He has coached 2 USA Olympians, has been instrumental at training a host of Olympic level athletes, 3 USA World, 12 USATF Junior Olympic, 4 USA World Junior, 3 USA  World Youth, 10 NCAA, 7 SEC, 10 Georgia High School State, and over 30 Alabama High School State Champions.

During his career, Williams had been awarded Birmingham Public Schools and Metro Birmingham “Coach of the Year “1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2011. He has served as Director of the City of Birmingham Youth Games Track and Field, Director, Club Elite of Birmingham Developmental Track and Field, USATF Level I Lead Coaching Education Instructor, former Sprint Coach at Samford University, and former Head Multi-Event and Sprint Coach at Quicksilver Track Club of Atlanta. 
Under his leadership as director of Club Elite of Birmingham, the International and Youth Club has trained and developed a host of notable athletes. Many of those young collegiate athletes include Vanderbilt University’s Simone Charley, University of Alabama’s Quanesha Burks, Troy University’s Myles Charley, Christian Knight, and Cameia Alexander.  Additionally, the most recognized high school athletes in the country such as Starling Thomas and Jayla Kirkland are students of Coach Williams.

Williams has coached some of the top 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, long and triple jump female high school athletes in Alabama track and field history. The 100-meter times of 11.32 by Lakeisha Williams and 11.33 by Kirkland are among the best ever. In addition, he coached the top male 100m athlete at 10.32 by Keenan Brock.

T. J. Williams is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He is a 1980 graduate of A. H. Parker High School. In addition, Williams is a 1986 graduate of Morris Brown College achieving a B.S. degree in Business Administration. As a faithful Wolverine, Williams was a four-year lettermen in track and field competing at 400 meters.  In 1997, he attended Auburn University in Adult Education certification program.

Coach Williams has two children, son, Ta’Ron and daughter, Alexandria.
