JACKSON, TN – Miles College Lady Bears basketball team had three players to score in double figures, but was not enough as they fell to the Lady Dragons of Lane College 56-49 Thursday night at Omar Arena.

Lane (8-11) led Miles (12-8; 9-6) 24-16 at halftime and Miles turned the corner for a 33-32 lead in the second half. The Lady Bears hit 17-of-67 (25.4%) shots, 6-of-15 (40%) from behind the arch and 9-of-17 (52.9%) from the foul line. Lane shot 29.1 percent from the field and 65.5 percent at the free throw line.

The Lady Bears last lead came in the first half with 16.04 left, while Lane’s largest lead of 10 points came in the second half with 4:22 left. In the paint, Miles out scored Lane 20-16 and Lane out scored Miles 16-9 off turnovers and 15-12 on second chance shots.

Senior guard Cyntonia Jones (Ellenwood, GA) led the Lady Bears in scoring with a team-high 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Jones hit 6-of-19 shots from the field and hit 5-of-8 three pointers. Junior center Brandy Gillespie (Tarrytown, GA) grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds and scored 10 points, while blocking 4 shots. Sophomore forward Jessica Franklin (Forest Park, GA) added 10 points and 8 boards and hit 4-of-4 free throws.

Litreece Hurn led Lane with a game-high double-double 19 points and 14 rebounds.

Miles will play Kentucky State University in Frankfort, KY on Saturday, February 6 at 1 p.m.
