The Lady Bears (9-4; 7-2) went to half down 25-30, while hitting 33.3% (10-30) from the floor and 50% (3-6) from the foul line. Tuskegee (4-8; 4-3) shot 43.8% (14-32) from the field and 40% (2-5) at the line. For the game, Miles hit 28-of-72 (38.9%) shots and went 12-of-25 (48%) from the foul line and Tuskegee shot 40.6% (28-of-69) from the floor and 45% (9-of-20) from the free throw line. With 24.9 seconds left in the second half, Miles Jessica Franklin tied the game with a layup at 61-61 for the first overtime. Ashley Orphey drained two free throws to put Miles ahead 63-61 with 12.2 seconds left and then Tuskegee Tequila Martin hit two free throws for the tie at 63-63 and send the game to the second overtime. With 5.1 seconds left, Orphey dropped two free throws for Miles to put the game out of reach at 72-67. The Lady Tigers led by as much as 12 points with 16.04 in the second half, while the Lady Bears went up by 5 points in the second overtime. There were 9 lead changes and score tied 7 times during the game. Tuskegee out scored Miles in the paint 40-24, 26-9 off turnovers and 12-2 on fast breaks. The Lady Bears out scored Tuskegee on second chance shots 21-8. Junior point guard Ashley Orphey (Soperton, GA) led the Lady Bears with a team-high 12 points and dished out a game-high 6 assist. Sophomore forward Jessica Franklin (Forest Park, GA) added 11 points and 9 rebounds, while blocking 4 shots and sophomore center Sammeika Thomas (Birmingham, AL) chipped in the only double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Senior’s Cyntonia and Cyntauria Jones added 9 points each, while Cyntauria added 11 boards. Tequila Martin led Tuskegee with 15 points and Alicia Barnes grabbed 10 rebounds. The Lady Bears will travel to Tuscaloosa, AL on Monday, January 18 to play Stillman College at 5:30. |
