Miles (8-4; 6-2) shot 40.6 percent from the field, as they went to half time up 39-38. They hit 33.3 percent in three’s and shot 66.7 percent from the line. LeMoyne-Owen (8-6; 7-3) hit 54.5 percent of their shots from the floor and 69.2 percent from the foul line. For the game, Miles hit 24-of-71 (33.8%) shots from the field and 20-of-31 (64.5%) at the free throw line. The Lady Magicians shot 36.2% (21-of-58) from the field and 73.7 % (14-of-19) from the foul line. Miles led by 14 points in the second half with 12:34 left and had five lead changes and the score tied three times. The Lady Bears out scored LeMoyne-Owen in the paint 38-20 and 24-23 off turnovers and bench play 20-8. Senior Forward Cyntauria Jones (Ellenwood, GA) led the Lady Bears in scoring with 16 points and 9 rebounds, while handing out 4 assist and 4 steals. Senior guard Cyntonia Jones (Ellenwood, GA) hit 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, while junior point guard Ashley Orphey (Soperton, GA) added 12 points and dished out a team-high six assist. Sophomore center Sammeika Thomas grabbed a game-high 10 boards, 9 points and blocked four shots. Jasmine Massey led LeMoyne-Owen with 24 points and Shonice Sprouse and Sharita Albright each had 8 rebounds. The Lady Bears will travel to Tuskegee, AL on Saturday, January 16 to play the Lady Tigers of Tuskegee University at 5:30. |
