The Lady Bears overall record improves to 6-3 and 4-1 in conference play and Paine dropped to 2-6 and 1-4 in the SIAC. Miles led by 11 (35-24) at halftime, by hitting 32.5% of its shots from the field, 35.7% from 3-point land and 57.1% from the free throw line. Paine shot 28.6% from the floor and 54.5% from the foul line. Miles finished the game by shooting 31.4% (22-of-70) from the floor and hitting 11-of-17 (64.7%) shots from the free throw line. For the game, Paine out rebounded Miles 54-48, while turning the ball over 24 times to Miles 10. Senior guard Cyntonia Jones (Ellenwood, GA) led the Lady Bears in scoring with a game-high 13 points, while pulling down 6 rebounds and hitting 5-of-11 baskets, 2 assist, and 3 steals and blocked 2 shots. Cyntonia twin sister, senior forward Cyntauria Jones (Ellenwood, GA) led the team with a team-high 10 rebounds and 7 points. Junior point guard Ashley Orphey added 12 points and 8 rebounds and dished out a game-high 4 assist. Sophomore guard Toccara Charles (Childersburg, AL) chipped in 10 points and junior center Brandy Gillespie (Tarrytown, GA) blocked 5 shots and grabbed another 7 boards. Areyal LaDeatte led Paine with 8 points and 15 rebounds. Miles Lady Bears will host the Tigerettes of Tuskegee University on Monday, January 4, 2010 in Birmingham, AL at Fair-Park Arena. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. |
