NORMAL, AL – Junior point guard Ashley Orphey scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Miles women’s basketball team, while dropping their third game of the season to Alabama A&M University 76-57 Saturday evening at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.
The Lady Bears went to break up by 5 (31-26), but finished the game with the Lady Bulldogs scoring 50-26 in the second half.First half, Miles hit 35.7% of its shots from the field and a perfect 100% at the foul line. Alabama A&M punched in 29.2 % from the floor and 47.6% at the line. For the game, Miles scored on 17-of-48 (35.4%) shots from the floor and made 19-of-25 (76%) free throws.
Orphey scored on 6-of-14 shots, 7-of-9 free throws, 5 boards, 2 assist and 3 steals, while playing 38 minutes. Senior forward Cyntauria Jones (Ellenwood, GA) added 16 points, 5 steal and went 4-of-4 from the charity strip and junior forward Brandy Gillespie (Tarrytown, GA) had a team-high 5 rebounds. Katrich Williams scored a team-high 20 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bears next game scheduled for January 4, 2010 at Fair-Park Arena, as they host the Lady Tigers of Tuskegee University at 5:30 p.m. |
