Fairfield, AL – The Miles football team entered the game looking to knock off the #1 team in the conference, but it was not to be, as Albany State defeated Miles 31-7 at Albert J. Sloan-Alumni Stadium.

Miles record is 3-4 and 3-3 in the SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), while Albany State improves to 6-0 and 5-0 in conference play.

The Golden Bears manage to hold the Golden Rams to 90 yards in passing, while Albany State would have its way with Miles on the ground with 348 yards. The Golden Rams held Miles to just 40 yards on the ground. Miles finished with 248 yards of total offense to Albany State 438 yards.

Miles quarterback Carlton Hill completed 16-of-39 passes for 208 yards and rushed for 22 yards. LaDarius Thompson caught six passes for 92 yards and Jonorzell Green another four for 57 yards.

Linebacker Corey Robinson was the work horse for the Golden Bears on defense with 15 tackles (9) solos, 1 tackle-for-loss and 1 forced fumble, while defensive back Darryl Perry would step-up with 13 tackles, 2 tackle-for-loss and 1 fumble recover.

Miles scored first in the 1st quarter with 7:09 remain on a Alexander Minor four yard run. Jon Rodriquez added the extra point to give the Golden Bears a 7-0 lead.

Albany State struck back with 2:34 left in the 1st quarter on a 14 yard run by Darryl Carey and Juan Bongarra PAT good to tie the game at 7-7.

The Golden Rams scored three more times in the 2nd quarter off a 34 yard field goal from Juan Bongarra, Demetrius Johnson 9 yard run and James Dorsey 11 yard catch from A.J. McKenna. Juan Bongarra made the two extra points to give Albany State a 24-7 lead at halftime.

Albany State final score came with 6:41 left in the 4th quarter, as Demetrius Johnson scored from one yard out and Juan Bongarra make the extra point for the final score of 31-7.

The Golden Bears will play Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Saturday, October 17 at 5 p.m., while Albany State will host the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University.
