Birmingham, AL – The Miles College Golden Bears fall to Samford University Bulldogs 31-21, as the Bulldogs scored twice in their first two possessions of the second half to rally back from a 12-3 halftime deficit Saturday afternoon at Seibert Stadium in Birmingham, AL.

Miles overall record falls to 2-2 and 2-1 in the SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), while Samford record improves to 2-1 overall.

The Golden Bears scored all its points in the second quarter on two touchdown passes to 6-foot-8 senior receiver Jeremy Cody from 24 and 17 yards out to build a 12-0 lead.

Senior defensive back Justin Hill setup Cody’s second touchdown with an interception off quarterback Dustin Taliaferro and returned it 43 yards to the Bulldogs 17. Hill’s second interception of a Taliaferro pass came with 4.3 seconds left in the half on the Bulldogs 24, to stop a Bulldogs drive.

Junior quarterback Carlton Hill completed 13-of-27 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns, while Jeremy Cody caught five passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns.

Samford scored its only points in the second quarter on a 34-yard field goal form Cameron Yaw with 6:50 left in the half. Yaw’s kick cut the Golden Bears lead to 12-3.

The Bulldogs scored on the second play from scrimmage in the third quarter on a Taliaferro seven-yard touchdown pass to DeMarcus Covington to cut the lead to 12-10 with 14:16 to go in the third quarter.

Samford would take its first lead of the game when quarterback Taliaferro scored on a one-yard sneak with 7:45 to go in the third, to give the Bulldogs a 17-12 lead.

The Bulldogs finished their scoring on a Taliaferro five-yard touchdown run and Chris Evens score from seven-yards out with 6:27 left in the game to make the final score 31-12.

The Golden Bears will play the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, September 26 at 6 p.m. and Samford will travel to play Appalachian State University at 2:30 p.m.
