Lady Bears Fall’s to Fifth-Ranked Alabama-Huntsville in South Regional

Huntsville, AL – The Miles College Lady Bears (24-20-1) fell to the University of Alabama-Huntsville (47-5-0) in the first round of the 2009 NCAA South Regional 1 in Huntsville, Alabama.
Before a crowd of 259 fans, MC fell 11-1 to UAH and will play the loser of the 3 p.m. game between Rollins College and University of West Florida at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Kayla Bowmaster (13-11) went 4 innings for the Lady Bears, while giving up six earned runs and ten hits.
LaSheka Williams scored Miles only run to tie the game at 1-1 off catcher Valerie Pena sacrifice fly to left field. Jay Owens, Teresa Erskine and Pena had one hit each.
BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Miles College baseball team failed to pick win 14 Wednesday afternoon by dropping a game to the Chargers of the University of Alabama Huntsville at home. After the 14-3 loss the Golden Bears are now 13-9 overall and 6-0 in the SIAC.
ATLANTA, GA – Miles College women’s track & field runner Alicia Ware has been named SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) Top Performer of the Week in the West Division. In the Southern Invitational Meet Alicia Ware’s high jump mark was 1.62m and her long jump mark was 4.84m. Paine College’s Sovonia Green shot put mark was 10.64 at the FAMU Relay.
Miles College Cheerleading is a co-ed cheer squad. The cheer team performs a various athletic events, as well as, Conference and National cheer competitions. Their primary mission is to achieve national and conference recognition. The team also gets the crowd involved for true “Golden Bears” spirit. The team performs stunts, tumbling, dances, jumps and cheers. The Miles College Cheer Team is to encourage excellent sportsmanship and to provide spirit and pride during athletic performances. The team also promotes the values and represents Miles College at all times. A high commitment to the team and College is expected. FAIRFIELD, AL – Junior forward Richard Harper (Jackson, MS) scored 22 points to lead the Miles men’s basketball team in their final game as they fell to Claflin University Panthers 70-64 Wednesday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
FAIRFIELD, AL – Senior night in Fairfield as senior forward and Miss Miles College Cyntauria Jones (Ellenwood, GA) scored a double-double 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Bears basketball team to victory over the Lady Panthers of Claflin University 75-66 Wednesday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
