Fairfield, AL – Miles struggled to get anything going offensively in game three Monday against Claflin University, by not getting on the scoreboard until the fourth inn and a 6-4 loss.


Miles is now 16-9 overall and 7-2 in the SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), while Claflin University moves to 10-17 and 7-6 in conference play.

The Panthers got on the board first, as Robert Platts doubled and scored on a Paul Carpenter double for a 0-1 lead.

The Golden Bears would not score until the fifth inn, as Nick Stone walked, Thomas Suits doubled, then Stone and Suits scored off Patrick Melvin’s double for a 2-1 lead.

The Golden Bears led 2-1 entering the eight inn, as Claflin scored five runs to take a 6-1 lead.

The Golden Bears got two more runs in the eight inn, after walks by Sergio Galloway and Michael Green. Eris Ray entered the game as a pinch runner for Galloway and later scored along with Green on a single by Chad Miller.

Chad Miller was 3-for-4, Derek McElroy 2-for-3 and Patrick Melvin went 3-for-5, as each drove-in a run apice.

Chase Mullinax threw 7.2 inns to pick up his first loss (2-1) of the season, while giving up one earned run and five runs on seven hits.

Miles Golden Bears will host the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University in a double-header on Wednesday, April 1 at 12 p.m.
