MilesCollege improves to 7-1 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as the Golden Bears win game two of a double-header over ClaflinUniversity 9-8. Claflin won game one 9-6.

In game two, the panthers scored first with three runs in the first, two in the second and one more in the third, before the Golden Bears added four runs of it’s owned in the third off a single by Kenneth Hatfield and double by Patrick Alonso.

Miles, 16-8 and 7-1 in the SIAC, added four runs in the fifth off a grand slaim by Michael Green to drive-in Sergio Galloway, Chad Miller and Patrick Alonso. Miles scored one more run in the six to build a 9-6 lead.

Michael Green went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI’s and scored a run and Kenneth Hatfield was 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Claflin, 9-17 and 6-6 in conference play, scored twice in the seventh with the help of back-to-back home runs by Reggie Taylor and Robert Platts.

Cody Newberry improved to 4-3 with the win, as he went 5.2 inns and gave up just three earned runs on six hits and five strike outs. Alex Elrod picked up his second save of the season.

In game opener, Miles managed to get nine total hits as ClaflinUniversity beat the Golden Bears 9-6 to open the three-game series.

Claflin took an early 1-0 lead in the first as Reggie Taylor reached on a fielder choice and later scored on a Trivon Howard single.

Miles came back to score six runs in the first on singles by Patrick Melvin, Chase Mullinax, Cory Wilkins, Patrick Alonso and Nick Stone and a double off the bat of Sergio Galloway to make the score 6-1.

The scored remained 6-1 until the third, as the Panthers scored two runs and another four runs in the fourth.

The Panthers tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh, while Sean Begley continued to retire Golden Bear hitter, striking out six.

Chad Miller (2-3) picked up the loss, as he went the distance, giving up three earned runs and striking out a season high 12 batters.

Cory Wilkins went 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI and scored a run, while Patrick Alonso knocked in two runs.

The two teams will wrap up the SIAC series on Monday with a 12 p.m. start at Rickwood Field.
