Lady Bears Defeat Benedict College in First Round of SIAC Tournament Print E-mail

Birmingham, AL – Senior forward Sade Odutola scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 8 boards for the Miles women’s basketball team as they beat the Lady Tigers of Benedict College 79-62 in the first round of the SIAC basketball tournament at Fair-Park Arena. Miles improves its record to 14-14, while Benedict falls to 10-17.

Miles led Benedict by two (38-36) at the half and scored another 41 points in the second half. The Lady Bears hit 27-of-64 shots from the field for 42.2 percent and 62.1 percent at the foul line while hitting 18-of-29 shots and 41.2 percent from behind the arc. Benedict shot 37.9 percent form the floor on 25-of-66 shots and 5-of-16 free throws for 31.3 percent.

Cyntonia Jones and Ashley Orphey added 17 and 14 points each and Orphey had a game-high 7 assist and 3 steals. Cyntauria Jones led the team with 9 rebounds, while scoring another 10 points and 3 blocks.

Sharkira Autry led Benedict in scoring with 12 points and Utivia Barnes had 13 rebounds.

The Lady Bears move on to play the Lady Panthers of Clark Atlanta University on Friday, March 6 at 4 p.m.
