“The first one feels good,” said Coach Billy Joe. “I’m very pleased that we’re improving and that all three components played much better than they did in past weeks.” Miles freshman quarterback Chivas Jones led the Golden Bears down to Benedict’s 8-yard line in the fourth quarter on a 12-play, 80-yard drive that led to Miles only touchdown, but sophomore Lamar Turner would run it in with 10:24 left from the 8-yard line and Madison would add the kick for the tie at 10-10. Junior running back LaQuan Phillips rushed 21 times for 76-yards, while quarterbacks Chivas Jones and Lamar Tuner would run for another 16 and 8 yards apice. Jones was 20-of-29 in passing for 139 yards, while freshman Gerald Benton led on the receiving side with 58 yards on five catches. Miles defense allowed the Tigers to gain only 80 yards on the ground in the second half on the back of Ernie Tabuteau, Rashad Bligen and Tobias Wilson that led the team with seven (7) tackles each. The Golden Bears next game is Saturday, October 11 in Selma, Alabama with the Hornets of Concordia College at 2:00 p.m. |
