William "Billy" Joe to be inducted into the 2008 MEAC Hall of Fame PDF Print E-mail

Fairfield, AL – Congratulations to Golden Bears head football coach William “Billy” Joe on being selected for induction into the 2008 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Hall of Fame. The official MEAC Hall of Fame Reception and Induction Brunch Ceremony will be on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Raleigh Marriott Hotel Crabtree Valley. The Enshrinees welcome reception begins at 9:30 a.m., prior to the induction brunch at 10:00 a.m.

Coach Joe is being inducted for this important honor because of his outstanding success as a coach in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and professional achievements in his community and state.

“Billy” Joe has been a winner where ever he has been, while compiling the secondwinningest record (237-108-4) in 31 seasons in black college football behind the late Eddie Robinson (Grambling State University). Coach Joe is also fourth on the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision all-time victories list.

Coach Joe has won seven National Black College Football Championships and two NAIA titles, while winning five MEAC titles and reached the FCS playoffs seven consecutive seasons at Florida A&M University.

William “Billy” Joe has already been inducted into both Florida A&M University (FAMU) Hall of Fame and the National Football Foundational Hall of Fame. Coach Joe played seven seasons in the National Football League for three teams and won a Super Bowl with the New York Jets in 1968.
