FAIRFIELD, AL – Junior guard Flawaan Flaggs led three Golden Bears in double figures they defeated Clark Atlanta Panthers 65-62 Monday night at Knox-Windham Gym in Fairfield. Miles College improves to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in the SIAC, while Clark Atlanta fall to 4-7 and 3-4 in conference play.

The Golden Bears went on a 33-8 run with 4:34 left for a 25 point lead and went to half up 39-22 on the back of Leon McKinney 17 points and six rebounds. Miles hit 44.1 percent (15-34) of its shots and 6-of-7 from the line for 85.7 percent. Clark Atlanta shot just 23.5 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from the foul line. Miles had 26 rebounds to Clark Atlanta 18.

The Panthers never led as Miles would lead by as much as 22 in the second half, before Kevin Johnson three free throws pulled the panthers within two (62-60). Garry Beverly lay-up made the score 63-62 with six seconds left, but Larry Swain two free throws with three seconds left sealed the deal for Miles. The Golden Bears hit 21-of-59 shots for 35.6 percent from the floor and 18-of 26 free throws for 69. 2 percent, while Clark Atlanta shot 35.3 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the line. Both team shot poorly from behind the arc with Miles hitting 20 percent (5-of-25) and Clark Atlanta 19 percent (4-of-21). Clark Atlanta had 46 rebounds to Miles 40 on the night.

Leon McKinney scored 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting and a team-high 8 rebounds, while Gaelon Hayden had 12 points. Larry Swain added 7 points and Jeremy Cody had 5 rebounds and career high five blocked shots. Reggie Griffin added a game-high eight assist.

Ale Burt led four players in double figures with 14 points to lead Clark Atlanta, while Garry Beverly had a double-double 10 points and game-high 12 rebounds.

Miles will host the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College in Knox-Windham Gym on Thursday, January 17 at 7:30.
