| Miles College Wins Two of Three Games from LeMoyne-Owen |

March 12, 2006 Memphis, TN - The Miles College Golden Bears baseball team (12-4) (5-1) won 2-of-3 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games from LeMoyne-Owen College (4-7) (2-4) this weekend at Jessie Turner Field in Memphis, TN. The Golden Bears won game one 5-4, game two 7-6, and lost game three 0-1. Junior Stephan Glover and freshman Chris Evans led the Golden Bears offense in hitting by going 2-of-3, Coty Painter and Steven Kennedy added 2 hits each. Calvin White led the Magicians offense with a 3-of-4 day at the plate, Kevin Shepard and Otis Horace had one hit each. On Saturday, senior pitcher Kenneth McGaughy (5-0) picked up the win for Miles in game one, while allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits and 6 strikeouts. Corey Green (0-2) got the loss for the Magicians. Seniors Steven Kennedy and Heath Franks led Miles with a 3-of-4 hitting day; Junior Stephan Glover went 2-of-3 at bat. John Shaffer was 3-of-3, with a home run for the Magicians. Marcus Parker added another 2 hits for LeMoyne-Owen College Senior pitcher Stevie Robertson (2-1) was the winning pitcher for the Golden Bears in the game one of the double-hitter on Sunday. Robertson allowed 6 runs on 10 hits with 7 strikeouts in 6 innings. Sophomore pitcher Coty Painter picked up his second save, while allowing one hit and one strike out. Scott Marks (2-1) got the loss for LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians. Sophomore Chris Echols led the Golden Bears by going 2-of-3 from the plate, Brandon Heard added 2 hits, Heath Franks went 1-of-1 and Jermaine Hudson went 1-of-2. Calvin White led the Magicians in hitting 2-of-4, Joshua Carthon and Marcus Parker each went 1-of-3. Game three on Sunday, sophomore Coty Painter (2-2) got the loss for Miles, despite an excellent performance allowing 1 run on 5 hits and 3 strike outs in a complete game effort. Philip Coon (2-1) got the shutout win for LeMoyne-Owen College. He allowed 9 hits in 7 innings. Miles will play Albany State University on Tuesday and Alabama State University on Wednesday at Willie May’s Park in Fairfield, AL. Both games are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. |
